Wyndham City Council

Program Summary

The WorkStart Warehousing Wyndham (WWW) pilot program is designed to support 12 young individuals aged 18-24 from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds residing in the City of Wyndham. The program aims to facilitate their entry into the labour market and assist them in achieving housing independence. Delivered at Youth Projects’ youth hub in Wyndham, the initiative includes, wraparound youth support, a peer learning environment, Youth Discovery Days with our primary employer partner, Team Global Express, employment support and post-placement support. Team Global Express is committed to increasing its youth workforce and has collaborated with Youth Projects and charity partner We are Mobilise, which will provide financial support to young people to secure housing. Together, we will activate recruitment and engagement strategies to encourage more young people to join their workforce.

Our pre-employment training program, co-designed with Team Global Express, ensures fit-for-purpose skills with their job requirements. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Warehousing through a traineeship or, if preferred, in partnership with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or TAFE. More information will be discovered during our co-design. The program focuses on enhancing employability by providing specific skills in forklift operation, warehousing administration, batch picking, pick packing, voice picking, and RF scanning. It will also offer immersive workplace tours, allowing young people to explore roles they may not have previously considered.

Participants will receive holistic support from our dedicated Youth Coaches, who will identify barriers to employment and collaborate with cross-functional teams and organisations to address these challenges. This preparation ensures young people are ready to succeed in the workplace upon completing their qualifications. Post-employment, participants will be supported by our expert In-Work Support Mentors. These mentors will conduct regular workplace visits, act as liaisons between employers and young people to mitigate the risk of job loss, and work with both parties to ensure career advancement and the creation of skilled pathways. In addition, our team will provide industry mentoring to frontline leaders of Team Global Express to help mitigate challenges and up-skill their workforce so they have a business that can thrive.
